Road Boss Rally + GIVIT

Thanks to Jamie Lawson, Organiser of the Road Boss Rally, just happening to catch GIVIT Founder Juliette Wright on ABC Radio, an incredible partnership was formed, positively impacting the lives of thousands of Australians facing hardship.

Inspired by Juliette’s passion and vision, Jamie reached out in 2015 and GIVIT became the Rally’s charity of choice. Since the inaugural event in 2016, incredibly, more than $1 million has been donated to GIVIT through the rally and the rest, as they say, is history.

What is the Road Boss Rally?

While the Rally arranges several smaller social events throughout the year, the main event, for those hardy enough to sign up for the ride, is an annual adventure like no other. With no two rallies ever covering the same ground, to enter a car, the driver and crew pay an entrance fee, commit to a fundraising contribution and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime!

When it all kicks off, the drivers head out to test their adventure, stamina and driving skills in some the remotest places in Australia. The rally covers hundreds of kilometres each day and stops off in towns and communities, joining the locals for fun and fundraising events along the way. It’s also an opportunity for GIVIT to provide donations to give relief to communities severely affected by on-going conditions whether that be drought, fire or flood. Previous donations have included school uniforms, fuel vouchers to assist access to hospital treatment, toiletries for women in sheltered accommodation, and even windsocks to aid light aircraft landings in medical emergencies.

On top of the welcome donations, there’s a great atmosphere when the Rally comes to town, with lots of opportunities to join in the fun, much of it arranged by the locals. Struggling businesses also get a significant financial boost from accommodation, food and fuel sales, with the fundraising activities of local community groups also benefiting from the arrival of the 200 plus drivers and crew.

How does the rally help GIVIT?

The Road Boss Rally has a massive, positive impact on GIVIT. Since 2016 the rally has raised close to $250,000 every year playing a critical role in ‘keeping the motor running and the lights on’ for GIVIT. The donation funds much of the infrastructure (kept lean and efficient with the aid of a passionate team and our awesome volunteers), enabling us to do what we do. It’s because of Jamie and the Rally team’s hard work, generosity and the dedication that, for example, when GIVIT set up a Bushfire Appeal, it can confidently assure Australians that 100% of their donations received will go directly to help those in need.

We’re so glad – and grateful – that Jamie was tuned to ABC Radio all those years ago!
