A Royal Visit with GIVIT Patron Queen Camilla
GIVIT team meet with Her Majesty Queen Camilla during visit to Australia
GIVIT is grateful for the support of Her Majesty The Queen since she became our Patron in 2020. GIVIT was honoured to be included in Her Majesty’s schedule of meetings in Canberra when His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen visited Australia in October 2024. A small group of GIVIT staff, volunteers and charity partners appreciated the opportunity to present details of our work in providing essential goods and services to people experiencing domestic and family violence and people who are recovering from natural disasters in Australia.
We discussed with Her Majesty the 25 natural disasters GIVIT has responded to over the last five years, and the more than 1 million items and services GIVIT has provided to people impacted by floods, bushfires, cyclones and storms during this period.
Mathew Hatcher, Mayor of Eurobodalla Shire Council, spoke to Her Majesty about his role setting up and running South Coast Donations Logistics during the Black Summer Bushfires, and how crucial GIVIT's support has been in helping bushfire-affected locals to recover.
Glenda Stevens from Canberra-based charity Fearless Women chatted to Her Majesty about how her organisation supports girls and young women, and about how GIVIT's online warehouse helped fit out Fearless Women's very first office with over $15,000 worth of furniture.
We also spoke about GIVIT's work helping people impacted by Domestic and Family Violence (DFV), a cause very close to Her Majesty. We highlighted that our campaign reached people over 1.3 million times and provided more than 33,000 essential goods and services, worth more than AU$500,000 to people affected by DFV.
It was a privilege to express our gratitude in person, acknowledging Her Majesty’s remarkable contributions, which continue to impact so many lives across Australia. This visit has further inspired us to continue our work and strengthen the positive change that Her Royal Highness Queen Camilla champions.
Queen Camilla became a Patron of GIVIT after she saw the devastation of the 2019/2020 Black Summer Bushfires and wanted to help. Queen Camilla expressed her deep empathy for Australians battling through the fires and their aftermath. Her generosity saw many local purchases to further support local businesses during this tough time and was a much appreciated example of how people across the world chose to help Australians facing hardship. Queen Camilla also shares strong values in wanting to help people and communities in very real and practical ways.
