Meat vouchers help bush kids attend school camp

Drought relief comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

What each person and community needs, varies remarkably. Sometimes, GIVIT is asked to provide tyres. Other times, it’s basic household goods. This time, it was meat vouchers to help feed 130 primary school students, 50 volunteers and 40 teachers.

Students from 12 small schools located in the Western Plains and Mitchell were travelling 450kms to attend the Bi-annual Small Schools Super Camp, held at the Nyngan Showground. The camp helps build capacity and resilience in the students, foster relations between communities, and expose students to a larger cohort of students with similar interests and general life experiences. This year's camp provided short term relief from the pressures associated with the severe drought conditions. The camp also helped students have a heap of fun and laughter... a much needed tonic in the bush.

To reduce costs, vouchers from the local butcher were purchased by GIVIT to help feed attendees. Meat was provided for the camp BBQ dinners, feeding students, volunteers and teachers.

In partnership with the NSW Government, GIVIT manages all offers of assistance to support communities, families and people facing extreme hardship due to the current drought.

100% of money received by GIVIT is supporting drought-affected communities, families and individuals. GIVIT does not charge any administration fees and is committed to purchasing locally wherever possible to support devastated communities.
