Help people living with disability to get connected
People with a disability are more likely than the general population to die or sustain injuries during disaster events¹.
Access to the internet and digital technology is crucial for participating in everyday life, and is something many people take for granted. Often people living with disability don't own a smartphone or digital device due to circumstances outside their control. Mobile phones, laptops or tablets are necessary to:
- Stay in touch with family and friends,
- Connect to support and health services,
- Access news and government information, especially during disasters and emergency events, and
- Access educational resources and other opportunities, and live a more fulfilled, connected life.
You can make a difference by donating a digital device to help someone living with disability get connected.
Listed below is exactly what's needed right now
Queenslanders with Disability Network is supporting Queenslanders with disability needing support across targeted communities. Your donation will be matched to a person's unique requirements to increase digital inclusion.
The list changes as we connect with people and understand their needs. 100% of publicly donated funds received by GIVIT for this appeal will be used to buy what's needed for people with disabilities. Every donation helps.

Who you're helping
BJ lives in 24-hour supported living accommodation. He attends CPL, a disability support service, four days a week, where he enjoys filming with a GoPro, then editing the footage on one of the centre's laptops. BJ loves showing these videos to his dad on their monthly visits.
BJ was over the moon with his new laptop that GIVIT provided thanks to generous donors. He's excited that he can now make his videos at home, and can't wait to chat with his friends and family on social media whenever he likes.
One of BJ's support workers, Shirley, said it had been a while since they'd seen him smile so much, and she didn't think it had sunk for him yet that the laptop belonged to him. BJ is non-verbal, but during GIVIT Engagement Officer Danni's visit, he kept on signing 'thank you' over and over!
More info
Access Affordability Ability (AAA) Digital Inclusion is a program that addresses this inequality in our community providing vulnerable people with a disability access to an appropriate digital device (smart phone, laptop, desktop computer), information on affordable ways to access data, and support to use their device to access the services they need.
Our partnership with Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) and our involvement in the AAA Digital Inclusion program means people doing it tough will get exactly what they need. Some people can't use a smartphone, as they don't have the dexterity; vision-impaired people may need a larger screen; some people may require a desktop computer because of physical needs.
Having access to a digital device and support in how to use it is an essential step in ensuring vulnerable people with disability can live safely and connect within our communities.
If you know of someone or work with someone with a disability who needs access to a digital device, that lives in the targeted communities of Brisbane, Moreton Bay or Gympie, please contact Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) on 1300 363 783 or via their website.
AAA Digital Inclusion is a partnership between GIVIT and Queenslanders with Disability Network.
