Supporting thousands in need with help from Endeavour Group

The relationship between Endeavour Group and GIVIT began in 2019 to help people impacted by drought and bushfires.

Endeavour Group's support includes $2 from every case of Hughie Beer, a Goulburn-brewed drop that makes a difference.

Like many other Southern New Wales towns, Bega bore the brunt of the Black Summer Bushfires, and recovery was complicated by COVID-19. The Bega Devils Soccer Club's canteen was running out of an ageing, well-loved shipping container. Returning to the club after the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID, volunteers discovered the canteen was infested by mice, and the timber furniture had perished. 

Support from Endeavour Group's Hughie Beer brand allowed GIVIT to assist Bega Devils Soccer Club with the refurbishment of their canteen. GIVIT provided cabinetry and shelving, a pie warmer, sink and water heater, and crockery and cutlery.

The refurbishment was gratefully received by club president Kerryn Constable. "I don't even have the words to explain how thankful we are for what you guys [Hughie and GIVIT] have done for us. It's just a really nice place to be now," Kerryn said.

Adelong, nestled in the Snowy Valleys, was also affected by the Black Summer Bushfires, which burned down the nearby Sugar Pine Forest. 

Making the best of a tough situation, the local Adelong Men's and Hen's Shed decided to pay their respects to the historic forest by making cheeseboards from the damaged trees. The cheeseboards proved very popular, and the shed had to pause orders so they could keep up.

Hughie's generosity enabled GIVIT to provide items for important maintenance work on the much-loved shed. GIVIT provided paint, hardware, and a heater for winter.

"Making sure a community hub such as the Men's Shed is comfortable and well-maintained, is extremely important for the health and wellbeing of its members and their families," said GIVIT's former NSW Manager Scott Barrett.

Every quarter, Dan Murphy's stores around Australia turn teal for National GIVIT Day. Customers all over the country are encouraged to round up their purchases or make a gold coin donation.

Since the initiative's launch in 2021, almost $1.8 million* has been raised to help GIVIT support people experiencing hardship. Money raised is used to support a different cause each quarter, such as people experiencing mental ill-health, people experiencing homelessness, families in need at Christmas, and flood-impacted communities. Dan Murphy's has also donated more than half a million dollars' worth of in-store advertising to GIVIT over the last 12 months, creating direct connections with customers at their point of purchase.

In NSW, drought and floods have left their mark on the farming community of Cumnock. Many families are still recovering, and don't always have what they need for school and sports.

Thanks to support from Dan Murphy's, GIVIT provided Cumnock Swim Club with club uniform hats. 

The swim club said "These hats mean so much to our club, that feeling of being part of a team in uniform, and we look forward to being sun-safe in these wonderful hats at carnivals and training. Thank you! We're very grateful."

In Far North Queensland, Shelter Housing Action Cairns was supporting a family who'd recently moved from the Torres Strait in search of a better education for their family.

The costs of the move, including paying for a motel while looking for permanent accommodation, school fees, and getting set up at school, quickly drained the family's finances. By the time they found somewhere to live, they were forced to reach out for support.

Thanks to support from BWS, GIVIT provided the family with a voucher to buy a laptop to suit their needs. 

The family said "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. A laptop is so much more than a laptop for our family – it is a lifeline to a better future. Our daughter needs this for her high school studies, and it was feeling like such a burden. Now she can keep up with her peers and gain a better education and she can also study more at home instead of spending long hours in the library.

...We benefit as a whole family as both Dad and Mum can job search for permanent work which has not been the case being new to this city. We’re looking for more suitable housing as well so access to the internet really helps with this. We are so grateful that we are able to be a part of this modern age and build a bright future thanks to your generous donation.”
