Client is a proud Indigenous man who has faced immense challenges with strength and courage. Recently, he was diagnosed with multifactorial cognitive impairment — a decline in cognitive functioning caused by several factors, including long-term substance use, liver disease, and untreated obstructive sleep apnoea.
His condition impacts many areas of his daily life. He struggles with attention, memory, planning, organisation, problem-solving, impulse control, decision-making, and emotional regulation. He also experiences physical difficulties with mobility and coordination, episodes of blacking out while walking, and an increased risk of falls.
On top of this, he lives with significant medical conditions, including advanced liver disease (Child C11 cirrhosis), hepatic encephalopathy, past hepatic abscesses, vein thrombosis, obesity (with prior bariatric surgery), obstructive sleep apnoea, and ongoing depression and anxiety.
