Domestic & Family Violence
Western Inpatient Psychiatric Unit is a 16-bed unit for women and gender diverse individuals. This is an acute mental health unit that support individuals with complex mental health needs.
As team we utilize sensory modulation to support individual's while they are on the unit for emotional regulation, and to promote a calming atmosphere on the unit. We promote that consumers can take sensory items (such as fidget toys or essential oils) home with them, so that when they leave the unit they can utilize sensory strategies learnt on the unit in their home environment. Unfortunately we do not have the budget to up keep the running costs to purchase such items. In 2025 our monthly group budget has been reduced by 50% so we are unable to fund ongoing costs for sensory items.
Consumer's are always greatly appreciative of the small amount resources we have on offer in the unit, we would greatly appreciate any donations to broaden the amount of sensory tools we can offer.
