Supporting thousands in need with help from BWS

For six weeks, 23-year-old Jack was stranded on his family property in Forbes NSW, completely cut off by floodwaters. Instead of celebrating Christmas like most people his age, he relied on food drops from the SES to survive. His usual holiday plans were replaced by uncertainty and the daunting task of recovery.

Through donations from BWS, GIVIT ensured Jack had groceries and fuel, providing him with the essentials he needed to endure the flooding. When the waters finally receded, Jack was ready to face the enormous task ahead—repairing fences, salvaging crops, and checking on his stock.

This wasn’t the Christmas he had anticipated, but thanks to the donations from BWS, Jack could begin the long process of rebuilding his life, his farm and to try to enjoy Christmas as much as he could.

A loving family from the Torres Strait Islands relocated for better educational and employment opportunities, rather than sending their children to boarding school—the only high school option available on the islands.

Despite these challenges, the organisation supporting them describes them as one of the most gracious families they've ever worked with. They are determined to be self-reliant but have reached out to the community out of necessity, expressing deep gratitude to anyone who can help and promising to pay it forward when they are able.

Funds donated by BWS were used to purchase a laptop so this family could easily access schoolwork and other services.

BWS customers all over the country are encouraged to round up their purchases or make a gold coin donation. Money raised is used to support a different cause each quarter, such as families in need at Christmas, and disaster-impacted communities.
