2022 New South Wales & Queensland Floods | GIVIT's Impact
In February and March 2022, New South Wales and Queensland were battered by floods, causing devastating loss of life and property. As the video below shows, one year on, the recovery continues for many people.

People we've helped
Wardell
A First Nations family from Cabbage Tree Island lost their home in the floods, escaping with only the clothes they were wearing. Over the past year, mum, dad and seven kids have been forced to move between emergency accommodation four times.
After the family moved into a temporary housing village at Wardell, GIVIT worked with Bunjum Aboriginal Corporation to provide them with household essentials, baby items, groceries, fuel and school uniforms.

Yeronga
GIVIT has worked closely with Yeronga Community Centre and other neighbourhood and community centres across Southeast Queensland to help people and families who've lost everything.
Floodwaters inundated Alex* and Renee's* (pictured left) recently purchased two-storey home. GIVIT provided whitegoods, funiture and other essentials to help them move back into their house and get their lives back on track.
Lismore
Floodwaters destroyed 30,000 books and items at Lismore Library. Staff reached out to GIVIT for help.
The big-hearted GIVIT community donated over $12,000 directly towards this request. Officeworks also donated $10,000 worth of books to be purchased locally from Book Warehouse Lismore.
While library repairs are ongoing, donated funds have helped restock the mobile libraries, and the baby and toddler programs are back up and running.
Lismore
Nine months after the floods, many families in Lismore were trying to prepare for Christmas without their trees and decorations that were destroyed by floodwaters.
GIVIT provided vouchers for Christmas trees and decorations to Lismore City Council, who worked with local grassroots organisations to distribute the donations to people in hardship.
The items helped people take their minds off flood recovery, and temporarily return to some normality.
Northern NSW
When Gemma's* home was inundated, she climbed onto the roof to escape the floodwaters.
While she was on the roof, her house caught fire, and she was rescued by a neighbour. Gemma spent the next six hours watching the lower part of her house flood, and the upper part of her house burn.
Through Container of Dreams, GIVIT provided Gemma with a range of vouchers to help her replace destroyed possessions as she recovers. GIVIT has worked extensively with Container of Dreams to assist flood-impacted locals (images below).
Lockyer Valley
Lockyer Community Centre's toy library has toys catering for children with disabilities, sensory processing and learning difficulties.
With many families losing homes across the Lockyer Valley, more families than ever are utilising the toy library to borrow toys for their kids.
GIVIT provided vouchers so the centre's staff could purchase especially chosen toys to meet increased demand.
Hawkesbury
Some families in the Hawkesbury region have been through four floods in two and a half years. The student community at Narwee Public School in Sydney donated over 300 gifts for kids impacted by flooding.
Hawkesbury's Helping Hands ensured these presents were under trees in time for Christmas.
Inala
Inala Community House held a bazaar where community members affected by the floods could access food and essential items.
The home of a family from New Zealand was severely impacted. The family, which included six kids, two parents and two elderly grandparents, received grocery vouchers and new clothes, including unerwear, bras and jumpers from GIVIT's corporate partner, Hanes Brands Australiasia.
