Good news for September 2024
September saw us provide more than 40,000 items and services to people doing it tough around Australia, thanks to your help. As our First Nations Support campaign wrapped up, our focus is now on preparing for this summer's disaster season.
Our work helping the residents of Wujal Wujal recover from last year's devastating floods was recognised with a 2024 Queensland Resilient Australia Award. Recovering from disasters takes time, and GIVIT helps for as long as we're needed. Helping Ben get around school safely
Ben* a young boy living with disability in Shepparton, Victoria, was using a scooter to help get around his school. With Ben no longer able to balance on the scooter, a safer solution was needed.
GIVIT worked with local charity Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project to provide Ben with a tricycle. He's over the moon to be riding a bike just like his friends at school!

GIVIT wins Queensland Resilient Australia Award for work in flood recovery
In December 2023, Tropical Cyclone Jasper made landfall in Far North Queensland, and the resulting rainfall caused devastating flooding across the region. Virtually the entire population of the remote Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal was evacuted.
GIVIT's role in managing donations, assisting community members and moving them back into their homes within six months of the event was recognised recently via a 2024 Queensland Resilient Australia Award.
GIVIT staff Temiah (second from left) and Christina (second from right) attended the event and accepted the award from QLD Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery, The Honourable Nikki Boyd (left), and Queensland Reconstruction Authority CEO, Major General Jake Ellwood (right).

The Centre for Women and Co. educates, supports and empowers women and their families across the Redlands and Logan region. For many of the women attending, these sessions provide a unique opportunity to explore new creative activities that they may never have tried before. It’s also a space for connection—some participants have been socially isolated, and this group serves as a vital bridge back to community engagement. We are witnessing a significant increase in participation, as well as positive shifts in self-esteem and outlook. The women are not only learning new skills but are also discovering a renewed sense of possibility in themselves, building confidence to try something new and embrace change." |

IKEA help us give fresh starts to families escaping domestic and family violence in Sydney
After escaping domestic and family violence situations, three Indigenous separate families in South Western Sydney have been given big boosts as they start from scratch. We teamed up with IKEA Marsden Park, using donated funds from generous Aussies to purchase furniture for three houses' worth of full bedroom fit-outs.
