A First Nations young woman has unexpectedly taken on kinship care of her 12 year old niece due to unforeseen family circumstances. The child has recently relocated from remote Far North Queensland to her aunt’s home in Townsville, bringing major changes during an already challenging time.
The aunt has opened her home and heart to ensure her niece remains safe, supported, and connected to family and culture. However, the sudden transition has placed significant financial strain on the household especially as payments from Centrelink will take some time before they transfer over.
The niece has now been enrolled to commence Year 7, and requires all new school essentials, including uniforms and school essentials.
Support through GIVIT would help ease the immediate financial pressure and ensure this young girl can start school feeling confident, included, and ready to learn.
