A newly arrived Afghan family is struggling to cope with Canberra’s harsh winter after fleeing conflict and rebuilding their lives from scratch. Having come from a much warmer climate, they were unprepared for the extreme cold and currently have no access to adequate heating or warm bedding.
The family is living on a limited income and cannot afford essentials such as heaters or winter quilts. As temperatures continue to drop, the cold is affecting their comfort, wellbeing, and ability to settle safely into their new home.
Support with warm quilts and a heater would make an immediate and meaningful difference, helping this family stay warm, healthy, and feel supported as they begin their new life in Australia.
